How Do Tears Lubricate The Eyes?
The primary purpose of tears is to clean and lubricate the eyes.
Tears are secreted from the lacrimal glands through ducts to the surface of the eyes between the eyeball and the lid.
The lacrimal gland, one for each eye, is located at the back of the top eyelid. When we blink, tears known as lacrimal fluid, are distributed over the eye surface.
The lower eyelids have minute orifices called puncta on their margins and bottom corner that collect tears and pass them down to the inner nose.
How To Deal With Grit or Dirt In The Eye
Something in the eye! It happens to all of us from time to time, whether it is an eyelash, dirt, grit, paint or any one of 100s of foreign bodies the result is the same. Discomfort at the least, excruciating pain at worst.
One of two things can happen when a foreign body gets into the eye. It can either stay on the surface or penetrate into the eye.

Those enterprising medical people have discovered a way to successfully transplant light sensitive retinal cells into mice.
To simplify the explanation of the procedure, they have developed photoreceptor cells that have been transplanted into the retina at the back of the eyes of mice and that have successfully integrated and not been being rejected.

Macular Degeneration Awareness
It has been announced that the Macular Disease Society (MDS) in the UK has started a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of macular degeneration.
The disease causes a loss of central vision with over half a million Britons suffering from the condition.
MDS believe that few people are aware that this condition is the largest cause of registered sight loss in the UK – and there is no known cure!
Clinical Evidence
I have just heard about a clinical trial confirming that a Mediterranean style diet will help to prevent heart disease, certain types of cancer and promote the chances of a longer and more active life.
Over a period of four years a sample size of 770 people was divided into three groups. One group was given a low fat diet, the other two were put on a typical Mediterranean diet with one group given an additional one litre of virgin olive oil a week and the other an extra 30 grammes of nuts a day.
Consumer Lawsuit
It should be noted that in the State of Iowa USA, a consumer lawsuit has been filed by the state Attorney General alleging that an a company marketing a self directed eye exercise program used a combination of misleading marketing tactics, exaggerated claims of effectiveness, false implications of scientific validity and misleading consumer testimonials.
